🇦🇪UAE salary guide · updated October 2026

What tech actually pays in the UAE

Search for 'software engineer salary in Dubai' and the first page contradicts itself by a factor of five. Indeed's UAE average is 6,382 AED/month; GulfTalent says 7,500; Glassdoor says 13,000; the recruiter Robert Walters prints a basic-salary range of 25,000–40,000; and verified packages on levels.fyi cluster around 29,000 with Amazon at 50,000. None of those pages is lying — each measures a different population, from visa-seeking registrants at outsourcers to RSU-paid engineers at multinational hubs. The UAE publishes no official occupational pay statistic to settle the argument, so this guide does the only honest thing: it keeps the tiers apart. Every range below is traceable to a named source and labelled as basic or package, employee or applicant. Find your role and level in the table, then read why the offer in front of you may belong to a different tier than you do.

Last updated October 2026 · conversions at the 3.6725 AED/USD peg · AED figures are gross package/month (untaxed)

A mid-level software engineer at a typical UAE employer earns 12,000–22,000 AED gross/month in total package. The same engineer at a funded unicorn, a sovereign-backed tech group, a big bank, or a multinational hub in Dubai or Abu Dhabi earns 24,000–38,000 AED, and seniors in that segment earn 35,000–50,000+ AED/month — verified UAE packages on levels.fyi put the all-levels median at about 29,000 AED/month and the Dubai senior median at about 30,300, with Amazon Dubai's median around 50,000. UAE salaries carry no income tax, so gross is effectively take-home.

Segment explains most of the variance in UAE tech pay. A typical local employer — agencies, outsourcers, SMEs, the long tail of in-house IT — pays a mid-level engineer 12,000–22,000 AED/month in total package; that is the population behind Glassdoor's 13,000 median and Bayt's 11,700 average. Cross into the funded-tech and multinational economy and the same CV commands roughly double: verified company medians on levels.fyi run from Tabby at 20,500 and Property Finder at 27,000 through Noon at 30,000, G42 and TII around 36,000–37,000, Talabat at 37,300 (seniors 42,300), Careem at 42,400, to Amazon Dubai at 50,200 AED/month with about a quarter of it in stock. Abu Dhabi's verified median (31,500) sits a little above Dubai's (27,000) because the sovereign-backed AI and government-tech employers are concentrated there.

Two structural facts change how you should read any UAE salary number. First, offers are packages: basic pay (conventionally 50–60% of the total) plus housing (20–30%) and transport allowances, often with medical, flights, and schooling — and end-of-service gratuity, overtime, and leave pay are computed on BASIC only, so two offers with the same total can differ sharply in what accrues to you. Second, there is no personal income tax, so a Dubai package is take-home in a way a taxed London or Berlin salary is not; the trade is that housing is expensive — a one-bedroom averages 55,000 AED/year in JVC and 110,000 in Dubai Marina on Bayut's 2025 report — so compare packages against rent, not against your home country's gross.

Why some sites tell you 6,000–9,000 AED

The lowball figures come from a measurable bias in who gets counted. GulfTalent's UAE software-engineer page averages 7,500 AED/month from 54 registered job seekers — people naming the minimum they would accept to get a visa-sponsored role, skewed junior and expat. Indeed's 6,382 average (139 salaries) mixes posted adverts from outsourcers and SMEs with user reports. Meanwhile verified employed packages on levels.fyi run 20,000–38,000 AED/month between the 25th and 75th percentile across all levels. Both numbers are 'real'; only one describes the market you are negotiating in.

The second distortion is mixing basic salary with total package. Robert Walters' 25,000–40,000 range for a software engineer is BASIC pay from job adverts, benefits excluded — and basic is conventionally only 50–60% of a UAE package, so the advertised package behind it is far higher. levels.fyi's 29,000 median is TOTAL compensation from a different population, verified employees at tech hubs. Setting one against the other compares different bases and different populations, and tells you nothing. Before trusting any UAE salary figure, check two things: does it measure applicants or employees, and does it say basic or package? This page does both.

How to negotiate with these numbers

  1. Negotiate basic, not just total: gratuity (21 days' basic per year for five years, 30 after), overtime, and leave pay all key off basic salary. A 60/40 basic-to-allowance split is worth more to you than 50/50 at the same total.

  2. Quote segment-matched data: 'verified UAE packages on levels.fyi put the senior median around 30,300 AED/month and the 75th percentile at 40,000' lands harder than any job-board average — and is hard to rebut with an Indeed number.

  3. If you hold an offer from the unicorn or multinational segment, say so. Local employers know the 2x gap and many will stretch toward it for engineers they cannot easily replace in a market where average tenure is 1.3 years.

  4. Ask what the stock is worth and when it vests. Outside Amazon, Careem, and senior Talabat roles, stock is near zero in verified UAE packages — a 'competitive equity' line usually isn't, so push for cash.

  5. Remember gross ≈ net in the UAE. When comparing against a European or remote offer, compare after-tax cash minus rent: an untaxed 30,000 AED package in Dubai beats a nominally higher taxed salary more often than the headline suggests.

Where these numbers come from

Primary anchors: levels.fyi verified UAE packages (read 3 October 2026, annual total compensation divided by twelve) — all levels median AED 347,986/year (≈29,000/month), p25 240,000, p75 456,000, p90 577,000 (n=302); Greater Dubai senior median 363,810/year (≈30,300/month), p75 480,000, p90 585,000 (n=114); Greater Dubai entry level median 120,016/year (≈10,000/month, n=19, thin); Abu Dhabi median 377,651/year (≈31,500/month, n=74); company medians for Amazon, Careem, Talabat, TII, G42, Noon, Emirates, Property Finder, and Tabby. Recruiter guides: Robert Walters Middle East Salary Survey 2026 (basic monthly pay from 100,000+ adverts: Software Engineer 25,000–40,000, Senior 30,000–35,000) and First Point Group's 2026 UAE teaser (Full-Stack 5–8 years 28,000; Front End 9+ years 35,000). Crowd data — Indeed UAE 6,382 (139 salaries, September 2026), Payscale base 110,768/year (170 profiles, June 2026), Glassdoor and Bayt snippets — is cited as the applicant and SME floor, not as market rate.

All AED figures are gross total monthly cash (basic + standard allowances); UAE salaries carry no personal income tax. The UAE publishes no official occupational wage statistic, so where sources disagree, bands were widened conservatively rather than averaged. Rows marked 'indicative' rest on thinner data — treat them as directional. USD-remote bands reflect international remote-hiring benchmarks for MENA-based engineers, not UAE employer pay. Conversions at the official peg of 3.6725 AED per US dollar.

Frequently asked questions

What is the average software engineer salary in Dubai in 2026?
There is no single honest average — segment decides. Typical local employers pay mid-level engineers 12,000–22,000 AED/month total package; unicorns, government tech groups, banks, and multinationals pay the same engineer 24,000–38,000; verified senior packages in that segment run 35,000–50,000+ AED/month. levels.fyi's verified UAE median across all levels is about 29,000 AED/month; Indeed's 6,382 and GulfTalent's 7,500 measure applicants and SME adverts, not employed engineers at tech employers.
Are UAE tech salaries really tax-free?
Yes — the UAE levies no income tax on individuals, so gross monthly cash is effectively take-home. Corporate tax (9% above AED 375,000 profit since June 2023) applies to businesses, not to employment income.
How much more do Careem, Talabat, G42, and Amazon pay than a typical employer?
Roughly double at the same level, based on verified packages: company medians on levels.fyi are Careem ≈42,400, Talabat ≈37,300, G42 ≈36,200, Noon ≈30,000, and Amazon Dubai ≈50,200 AED/month, against a typical local mid-level band of 12,000–22,000. Amazon's median is 2.4x Tabby's (≈20,500), so even within the funded-tech tier the spread is wide — and only Amazon and Careem pay meaningful stock.
Should I compare offers on basic salary or total package?
Compare both, deliberately. Total monthly cash decides what you live on; basic salary decides your end-of-service gratuity (21 days' basic per year of service for the first five years, 30 thereafter, under Federal Decree-Law 33/2021), overtime, and leave encashment. Recruiter guides such as Robert Walters quote basic only, verified-package sites quote total — never set one against the other without adjusting.
What salary do I need for a UAE Golden Visa as a software engineer?
The skilled-professional route requires a monthly salary of at least AED 30,000, a bachelor's degree or equivalent, a valid UAE employment contract in a MOHRE level 1 or 2 occupation (IT qualifies), and a salary certificate with six months of bank statements. That threshold sits almost exactly at the verified Dubai senior median (≈30,300), so a senior offer from the top segment typically clears it.
How do UAE salaries compare with USD remote work?
The top UAE segment is genuinely competitive: an untaxed 35,000–50,000 AED/month (≈$9,500–13,600) senior package beats typical MENA remote-USD rates of $3,500–7,000/month even after Dubai rent. For engineers in the typical local segment, however, remote USD work remains a 2–3x jump — which is exactly the leverage to name in negotiation.
