Frontend developer salaries in Egypt, without the lowballing

Frontend is the most misquoted salary in Egyptian tech. Career listicles publish 8,000–18,000 EGP/month as the role's 'average' — a range that survey data identifies precisely as the junior first-year band — and HR teams then wave those pages at mid-level and senior candidates. The reality has three tiers. In the community survey behind this page, 230 frontend developers at Egypt-local employers report a median of 22,181 EGP net/month across all levels; senior frontend engineers alone, once you include those working remotely for foreign companies, report a median of 58,333 with a 90th percentile of 145,500 EGP/month. React dominates Egyptian frontend hiring, and strong React engineers with real product portfolios are exactly the profile international remote employers compete for.

A mid-level frontend developer in Egypt earns 15,000–34,000 EGP net/month at typical local companies and 25,000–45,000 at top product companies in 2026. Seniors earn 30,000–70,000 EGP locally, 60,000–110,000 at multinationals, and $2,000–4,500+/month (roughly 100,000–220,000 EGP) working remotely for international employers. The '8,000–18,000 EGP' figure widely quoted online is the junior band only.

The junior market is genuinely crowded — bootcamp growth made entry-level frontend the most competitive junior track in Egypt, which is why junior offers cluster at 8,000–19,000 EGP and employers can be choosy. But the crowding is at the bottom. From mid-level up, demand flips: companies struggle to find engineers who can own component architecture, state management, and performance in production, and pay rises steeply with proof of that ownership.

Frontend also has the widest remote premium of any Egyptian tech track. Global demand for React absorbed a large share of Egypt's senior frontend talent, and remote rates of $1,500–3,000/month for mid-level and $2,000–4,500+ for senior are standard — vetted-marketplace averages for Egyptian frontend engineers run around $3,600/month. At ~49 EGP/USD, even the bottom of the senior remote band is more than double the top of the typical local mid-level range. That alternative is your negotiation leverage even if you never take a remote job.

The '8,000–18,000 EGP' myth, traced to its source

A widely-ranked career guide lists 'Front-End Developer: average salary 8,000–18,000 EGP per month' for Egypt with no source, no experience split, and no collection date. Compare that against the survey data: the junior frontend band is 8,000–19,000 EGP (n=99). The match is almost exact — what is being sold as the market average is the first-year salary.

Layer the currency on top. Frontend self-reports collected before March 2024 were denominated in a pound worth ~31 to the dollar; today's rate is ~49. Aggregator pages still showing 3,800–11,500 EGP 'frontend averages' are arithmetic ghosts of that older currency era. Any Egypt frontend figure without a date and an exchange-rate stamp should be assumed pre-float and discarded.

How to negotiate with these numbers

  1. Bring segment-matched numbers: 'survey median for senior frontend including remote is 58,333 EGP; the 90th percentile is 145,500' lands harder than any listicle counter-quote.

  2. Portfolio beats years: Egyptian employers pay the top of local bands for demonstrated product ownership — shipped features, performance wins, design-system work — not for time served.

  3. Quote your remote alternative honestly: mid-level React engineers get $1,500–3,000/month internationally. A local employer who wants to keep you must at least be conscious of that gap.

  4. Confirm net vs gross and get the full package itemized in writing — transportation, medical, and any USD-linked component change the real number materially.

  5. Negotiate a salary-review cadence into the offer: with 13–15% inflation, an offer without a review date loses a seventh of its value within a year.

Where these numbers come from

Primary source: the egytech.fyi community survey's public API, queried July 2026 — 230 frontend respondents at local employers (median 22,181 EGP net/month, 90th percentile 59,000), and 72 senior frontend respondents including remote workers (median 58,333, 90th percentile 145,500). Cross-checked against WUZZUF Careers' May 2026 editorial ranges (mid-level frontend 18,000–32,000 EGP at product companies; senior engineers 45,000–70,000) and remote benchmarks from Arc.dev and Plane (Egyptian frontend averages of roughly $43,000–44,000/year).

All EGP figures are net monthly; USD conversions use ~49 EGP/USD (July 2026). Survey data is post-float (2024); where 2026 editorial sources ran higher, we widened ranges upward only.

Frequently asked questions

What does a frontend developer earn in Egypt in 2026?
Juniors: 8,000–19,000 EGP net/month. Mid-level: 15,000–34,000 at typical local companies, 25,000–45,000 at top product companies. Senior: 30,000–70,000 locally, 60,000–110,000 at multinationals, and $2,000–4,500+/month working remotely for international employers.
Do frontend developers in Egypt really earn 100,000+ EGP per month?
Yes — in a specific segment. Senior frontend engineers including remote workers report a 90th percentile of 145,500 EGP net/month in survey data (n=72). At ~49 EGP/USD, 100,000–150,000 EGP is $2,000–3,000/month, a normal international remote rate for a senior React engineer.
Is React the right stack for maximizing frontend salary in Egypt?
React carries the overwhelming majority of Egyptian frontend demand and nearly all of the international remote demand, so it maximizes both your local options and your USD-remote leverage. Deep specialization — performance at scale, design systems, React Native — is what separates the top of the senior band from the middle.
Why does the junior frontend market pay so little?
Supply. Bootcamps made entry-level frontend Egypt's most crowded junior track, so employers can fill junior seats cheaply at 8,000–19,000 EGP. The crowding disappears from mid-level up — which is why the salary curve steepens sharply after the first two to three years.
