Tech CV for Finland ICT jobs: showcase stacks, projects & GitHub
Learn how to build a concise Finnish-style tech CV that highlights concrete tech stacks, real project outcomes, GitHub links and side-projects, and when
Create your CVUnderstanding Finnish tech hiring expectations
Finnish recruiters in ICT scan each application within seconds. They look for concrete tool names and exact version numbers because applicant-tracking systems (ATS) match those strings literally. If a job posting asks for “React 17” and your CV says “React (latest)”, the parser will skip you. Pull the exact nouns from the ad – language, framework, database, CI/CD tool – and copy them verbatim.
A short notice period and earliest start date belong near the top of the document, usually in the contact block or the profile line. Recruiters often filter out candidates who cannot start within the timeframe the project demands, so write something like “Available to start 02 May 2024, notice period 2 weeks” right after your phone number.
Language choice matters. In the capital region’s tech scene, English-first CVs are the norm, even for local startups. Public-sector ICT roles still expect a Finnish-language CV, but most private firms accept English without penalty. When you are unsure, consult the article on English or Finnish CV for Finland jobs? When to choose each language for a quick decision tree.
Finnish data-privacy rules (GDPR) require you to omit age, personal identification number, marital status, and any photo unless specifically requested. Include only name, professional email, phone, LinkedIn, and GitHub links. A brief “Work authorization: EU citizen” line is acceptable as a factual statement; do not elaborate on visa processes.
Structuring the CV: sections and length
A Finnish tech CV should never exceed two pages. Recruiters prefer a factual, impact-first layout that can be skimmed on a mobile screen or printed on A4. Use the following heading order, each clearly labeled:
- Profile – 3-4 concise sentences stating your role (e.g., “Full-stack developer with 5 years of experience in cloud-native SaaS products”), primary tech focus, and years of experience. Mention availability and work-authorization here if space permits.
- Tech Stack – List each stack on its own line as “Language / Framework / Tool (version)”. Keep the order identical to the job ad; for example: “JavaScript / React 17 / Node.js 14 / Docker 20.10”.
- Projects – Include 2–4 recent projects that showcase the stack you just listed. For each project, write a one-sentence goal, your specific role, a measurable outcome, and a direct GitHub URL.
- Professional Experience – Chronological entries, each with company name, location, dates, and a bullet list of achievements. Start each bullet with a strong verb (“Implemented”, “Optimized”, “Automated”) and finish with a quantifiable result (“reduced latency by 30 %”, “handled 1 M API calls per month”).
- Education – Degree, institution, graduation year, and any relevant coursework (e.g., “Distributed Systems”, “Machine Learning”). If you studied abroad, add a short note that the degree is recognized in Finland.
- Certifications – Only list certifications that the employer values (e.g., “AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate”). Use the official title and year.
Place your LinkedIn and GitHub URLs under the contact details, not buried in the footer. This makes it easy for a recruiter to click through while reviewing the PDF on a screen.
Showcasing tech stacks and projects concretely
List stacks exactly as in the posting
When the ad mentions “Kubernetes 1.22”, write it that way. Do not abbreviate to “K8s” unless the posting does. A typical stack line might look like:
Python / Django 3.2 / PostgreSQL 13 / Kubernetes 1.22 / GitLab CI 13
If you have multiple relevant stacks, separate them with a vertical bar or a blank line to keep the section readable.
Project entries with measurable outcomes
Example project entry
- Goal: Build a real-time analytics dashboard for e-commerce merchants.
- Role: Lead front-end engineer; integrated API endpoints and visualized data with D3.js.
- Outcome: Delivered MVP in 6 weeks; dashboard handled 250 k concurrent users with sub-second response times.
- Link: https://github.com/username/analytics-dashboard
Notice the structure: goal → role → outcome → link. The outcome includes a concrete metric that recruiters can verify at a glance. Avoid vague statements like “Improved user experience” without numbers.
Side projects that add value
Side projects are welcome if they use the same technologies the employer seeks. Keep the description to two bullet points: one for the technical challenge and one for the result. For instance:
- Developed an open-source CLI tool in Go 1.18 to automate Docker image tagging; gained 150 stars on GitHub.
- Integrated the tool into a CI pipeline, cutting release preparation time by 40 %.
Bullet-point style
- Begin with an action verb.
- Mention the technology used.
- End with a quantifiable impact.
Bad: “Worked on a microservice.”
Good: “Designed and deployed a microservice in Node.js 14, reducing order-processing latency by 25 %.”
Common mistakes in Finnish ICT CVs
| Mistake | Why it hurts | How to fix it |
|---|---|---|
| Overusing buzzwords (“innovative”, “team player”) without evidence | Finnish hiring culture values concrete proof over self-praise. Recruiters may discard a CV that sounds like marketing copy. | Replace adjectives with specific actions and results. |
| Including a photo | Most tech firms prefer a neutral layout; a photo can introduce unconscious bias and waste space. | Omit the photo entirely. |
| Listing every language you ever learned | Recruiters scan for relevance. An exhaustive language list dilutes the impact of the skills you actually use daily. | Keep only languages that are required or add a short “Languages” line with proficiency levels (e.g., “English C1, Finnish B1”). |
| Leaving out notice period or availability | Recruiters need to know if you can start when the project begins. Missing this data often leads to an early drop. | Add a line in the profile or contact section: “Notice period: 2 weeks; available from 1 June 2024.” |
| Using a Finnish-only CV for a capital-region startup | Most startups operate in English; a Finnish-only CV may be overlooked by hiring managers who do not read Finnish fluently. | Switch to an English version; see the guide on English or Finnish CV for Finland jobs? When to choose each language for criteria. |
| Ignoring the “cv it-alalle” keyword | Recruiters sometimes search internal databases with Finnish terms. | Include the phrase “cv it-alalle” once in the profile or skills section, naturally integrated. |
Do-this / Avoid-this checklist
- Do list exact version numbers for every framework you claim.
- Do provide a live GitHub link that a recruiter can click.
- Do state work authorization as a factual line.
- Avoid adding a personal photo unless the job posting explicitly asks.
- Avoid generic statements like “Passionate about technology”. Replace with “Implemented CI/CD pipelines that reduced deployment time by 50 %”.
By following these concrete steps, your tech CV will align with Finnish ICT hiring expectations, stand out in the ATS, and give recruiters the factual evidence they demand.
